A view from high in the cheap seats…
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a Dallas Cowboys game and while I did not have to sit up in the so called “nose-bleed” section – I could not help but marvel at the grandeur of Cowboy Stadium and the marketing genius that can convince someone to come to an event with over 100,000 other fans… pay a minimum $30 to park and walk over a ½ mile just to get to the entrance… Once in, you walk up what appears to be a never-ending series of escalators and circular walkways to get to an altitude that most of the population in the U.S. will never achieve… only to find a small plastic seat that has been assigned to you for the next 4 hours or so… to watch a football game on a 70’ tall HD screen because you are so far away the players look like ants running around on green and blue pavement on a hot summer day in Texas… all this for the “low cost ticket price” of at least $100, plus food, beverage and souvenirs that would cost half as much anywhere else… Only to leave early because your team is either winning or losing by such a margin it is no longer “fun to watch” and you have to reverse the whole process only to sit in your car for an hour just to get out of the parking lot and onto a freeway that is at a standstill…
I tell you this not because I am a Cowboy’s fan… but rather to make the point that bigger is not always better. Animal Science Products, Inc recognizes we cannot be all things to all customers. We cannot put on the “the big show” that many of our larger competitors can and often do… What we can do is react quickly to deliver value-added products and services to meet our customer’s needs, on-spec & on-time. Providing high quality products and services via honest and creative solutions to unique market challenges is who we are and what we do best. In support of that mission, ASP has invested heavily in sales, financial and production technology these past few years to improve overall coordination of efforts/collaboration and provide better time-sensitive information resulting in better and timelier decision-making throughout our entire process. Clearly, this is better for ASP, but more importantly, it is better for you, the customer. Like you, the recent economic challenges of the past few years has caused ASP to find new ways to work smarter and gain unique competitive advantages in the market place where the “Big Boys” look good, but simply cannot provide the prompt responses that distinguish ASP.
